Feature phone shipments totalled 111m units in Q2 of 2018, an increase of 5% compared to the comparable prior year period. Counterpoint attributed this growth to the increase in feature phone sales witnessed in the Middle East and Africa regions, reaching 17% year-over-year. In the North America, Chinese companies controlled 40% of feature phone shipments, divided between Alcatel, which gained a 22% stake and HMD with a 18% stake. Things are different in South America, as Alcatel Mobile accounted for only 4% of feature phone shipments. In the Middle East and Africa, Chinese companies controlled the market with about 60% stake of feature phone sales.
