China Is Cuckoo For 'Coco' (So Far) With $2M Friday And Promising Weekend Pre-Orders

Although the Disney (NYSE:DIS) animation subsidiary’s films have consistently played to solid results in most major territories, it faces an uphill battle in China. While other studios’ animated feature films have averaged better than 10 percent of their worldwide grosses in China, most of the Toy Story studio’s movies have earned 2 percent or less there. Up, for instance, earned just 1.8% of its $731 million global box office take in China, while Brave took in just 0.8% of its $531 million international haul there. Pixar’s high water mark in the PRC is last year’s Finding Dory, which collected $38 million, or just 3.7 percent of its worldwide total, in China.
