Children's safety in spotlight during library debateJohn Hawkins Impassioned Invercargill city councillor Karen Arnold speaks out for children's safety during a debate about the location of the children's section of the Invercargill library. A decision to leave the children's section of the Invercargill Library in its current location has come with a grim safety warning from a city councillor. The long-awaited decision, made after public consultations that began in 2014, came after many parents urged the council to keep the children's section in its current library location. But Cr Karen Arnold warned of the dangers of such a scenario, saying the library windows were a "fish bowl" and people still dropped their children at the library and left them unattended. Cr Toni Biddle, however, suggested children may be more vulnerable if out of public view in the northwest corner of the library.
