Children's book debunks glory of warWARWICK SMITH/STUFF Lena and Forrest Chambers launch their book "Remember The Brave" at Palmerston North Library. The tortures endured by World War I conscientious objectors provided the inspiration for a new children's book written by Palmerston North prison chaplain Forrest Chambers and his home-schooled daughter Lena. The conscientious objectors and the punishments dished out to them, the horrors of war and the terrible mental suffering of young men forced to go against their sense of morality to hate and kill were missing. WARWICK SMITH/STUFF "We see a soldier being dragged towards the front line..." Writer Forrest Chambers reads from Remember the Brave. "The casualties were not just those who were killed and injured, but also those veterans who could not function after the war was over."
