Three children have been rescued from a car found upside down in a West Coast river after a crash that killed their father. Senior Sergeant Brent Cook said police were alerted by a member of the public about 8.20pm after they came across a vehicle upside down in the Otututu River. The passer-by had rescued the children, aged 11, nine and six. Snr Sgt Cook said the children’s father was driving the car and was later found dead by emergency services staff. Snr Sgt Cook said police wanted to acknowledge the actions of the rescuer who saved the children, as well as a local farmer who gave comfort and shelter after the crash.
