Child 'predator' sentenced to preventive detentionNZPOLICE Michael Lesley Stevens has been sentenced to preventative detention, an indefinite sentence imposed only on the most serious of offenders. Stevens' offending while being stringently monitored was described as unusual by Crown prosecutor Evan McCaughan, who asked Justice Toogood to consider an indeterminate sentence of preventive detention. He'd spent lengthy periods in youth justice facilities and had suffered "traumatic" incidents, Justice Toogood said. Although Stevens' offending was not as serious as other cases, his crimes were aggravated by several factors.
