A person has died after being hit by a car on Oakland St in Mataura. Mataura residents in Southland are trying to get to grips with the tragic death of a child in the township, a community board member says. The child died after being hit by a car on Saturday. Police were called to Oakland St, between Dover and Bristol streets about 4.50pm to a report someone had been struck by a vehicle. Police closed Oakland St on Saturday to allow an examination of the scene.
