The family vote is seen as key to all parties campaigning in the general election, with commitments across the board to reduce the cost of childcare. Fine Gael will today announce plans to double the Child Benefit payment every August, meaning families will receive at least €280 per child. The party is also committing to reducing the cost of childcare to €200 a month per child with a €600 cap per family. The Labour Party insists it was the first to come forward with a proposal to cap childcare costs at €200 a month per child. The Social Democrats is committing to capping childcare costs at €250 per month.
