While this year will be the 57th edition of the CAF Champions League, it will only be the seventh featuring a club from Southern Africa in the final. Kaizer Chiefs are preparing to contest their first-ever final of the premier continental club competition against Egyptian giants and nine-time winners Al Ahly. Through North Africa’s dominance, the region has won the tournament 32 times among the four major nations – Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. Amakhosi, representing Southern Africa, will be hoping to bring the gong South for only the third time – the first in six years – in the region’s seventh final appearance. Three years later, Zimbabwean giants Dynamos powered their way into the final, but were runners-up to ASEC.
