The chief executive of TikTok has left the company after less than three months following President Trump’s demand that the Chinese-owned video sharing app must be sold to a US company or else be banned. Kevin Mayer, who joined the popular video app at the start of June from Walt Disney, where he was one of the company’s most senior executives, said the role he signed up for would now “look very different” after Mr Trump’s demands that the company be sold. The departure is the latest crushing blow for TikTok, which had been enjoying a sharp rise in popularity with two billion downloads worldwide and 100 million users in the US.
