According to multiple reports, Romine was signed for $1.5 million for the 2021 season. Contreras will enter his final arbitration year in 2022 and is set to earn $6.65 million from the Cubs this season. Last season, Romine slashed .238/.259/.323 in 37 games with the Detroit Tigers. He had previously spent parts of eight different seasons as a backup catcher for the New York Yankees.
