(File photo: Bangkok Post)CHIANG MAI — Water quality in the moat in this northern city is safe for Songkran revellers to splash in but not good enough for drinking, Chiang Mai Mayor Assanee Buranupakorn said on Friday. Chiang Mai is a key destination for holiday makers during the water festival, and the area around the moat is one of the most popular spots. Chiang Mai airport general manager Karant Thanakuljeerapat said the airport was expected to have 22,104 arrivals a day from Friday to April 19, 9% less than the same period last year. Provincial governor Ratthapol Naradisorn expected more visitors would be travelling to Chiang Mai by bus, with about 12,000 passengers expected, a 10% increase from the Songkran holiday last year.
