Commuters have been advised to avoid roads near ghats and water bodies in the capital on Thursday evening and Friday morning because of Chhath Puja celebrations. Several diversions have been planned for the two days when thousands of Delhi residents are expected to gather at its ghats to celebrate the festival. The traffic police have marked 34 ghats, ponds and canals to be avoided by motorists. While many devotees return home after that, a few opt to stay back through the night. The devotees return to the ghats early on Friday and offer prayers before dispersing.
