Chespol sails to 3,000m SC final to save Kenya blushes


Former world under-20 3000m steeplechase champion Celliphine Chespol spared the country blushes in the event by romping into the final at the World athletics Championships in Oregon. Chespol won Heat Three, clocking 9:16.78 as Slovenian Marisa Mismas came home second in 9:17.48. The race was won by Kenyan-born favourite Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan who clocked 9:01.54. Ethiopia Wekuha Getachew came home a distant second in 9:11.25 with Mawa Bouzaywi of Tunisia third in 9:12.14. Purity Kirui came home a distant 10th in the second heat in 9:26.88 .The race was won by French woman Alice Finot in 9:14.34.
