Cherif Chekatt, the gunman who killed multiple people Tuesday at a Christmas market in Strasbourg, France, is dead, a Paris prosecutor said Thursday. After the officers addressed him, the suspect turned around and opened fire at the officers, following which they responded, he wrote. Before opening fire on the Christmas market in Strasbourg on Tuesday, Chekatt, 29, yelled "Allahu Akbar," Paris' public prosecutor said. The SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors extremist activity online, says the Islamic State group's Amaq news agency claimed Chekatt as a "soldier" of the group, according to The Associated Press. Supporters of the Islamic State terror group were celebrating the shooting online, according to the U.S.-based SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors jihadi communications worldwide.
