(File photo)A chemical reaction at a commercial building has led to a road closure in Christchurch. Emergency services received two 111 calls reporting a “gas-like smell” and smoke coming from a large building on Birmingham Drive, Wigram, about 6.12pm on Monday, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said. A reaction in a chemical bath caused overheating and chemical smoke was emitted as a result, the spokesman said. The road was closed initially, but the four attending fire crews had since managed to get the situation under control.
