Chelsea beat Birmingham to top Women's Super League

Fran Kirby was on target for table-topping ChelseaFran Kirby and Ji So-Yun scored either side of half-time as champions Chelsea moved to the top of Women's Super League with a comfortable 2-0 victory at mid-table Birmingham. League top-scorer Kirby gave the visitors a 19th-minute lead in Solihull, converting a rebound from close range to claim her 12th goal of the season after Crystal Dunn's initial effort was blocked. With Manchester City not in action until Sunday, the result leaves Emma Hayes' unbeaten side a point above their title rivals, albeit having played a game more. In Saturday's second game, goals from Bridget Galloway and Rachel Pitman gave Sunderland a 2-1 victory at Bristol City. Galloway slotted home from Dominique Bruinenberg's 11th-minute cross to put the visitors ahead but City were level four minutes later as Lauren Hemp converted from close range.
