For two decades, the western edge of Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood has been New York’s de facto gallery district, with dozens of places of all sizes to see contemporary art. But these days, the area is undergoing a transformation, with an emphasis on larger spaces that can almost resemble museums. In short, Chelsea is now increasingly defined by what is often dubbed the mega-gallery.
