IN 1985, WHEN Madonna was seeking film stardom in “Desperately Seeking Susan” and touring to promote “Like a Virgin,” Andy Warhol wrote a diary entry about a dinner party where “the girls were absolutely all wearing the shortest shirts ever and then the Madonna stockings.” That could only have meant one thing: leggings stolen from the dance studio.
