But over time, the restricted function of the heart can lead to heart failure, symptoms for which include tiredness, shortness of breath and palpitations. In some cases where the heart function is very poor, people may require a heart transplant. 'I was told there's no cure or anything to make it better and one day I would need a transplant,' Charlotte said. 'Doctors back then said the heart transplant was not urgent, but that I would need one eventually.'
