Political careerAfter clocking 60 years of age, he retired from his post as the attorney general. Charles Njonjo was Kenya's first attorney general. After his election to parliament, then-president Daniel Moi appointed Njonjo into the Cabinet as Minister for Home and Constitutional Affairs. it was obvious that he was not planning to marry an African woman because he broke off his engagement with Koinange.
