The following season, Chapman was an all-star with 36 homers and 91 RBIs. Chapman has never quite had a year like Semien did with the Jays in 2021, or with Oakland in 2019, but his career OPS is 40 points higher. Per Baseball-Reference, Semien has been worth 28.7 WAR across nine seasons; Chapman 23.2 across just five. Probably not, but he has a better shot than some might think at matching whatever Semien does this season in Texas. Turns out he didn’t need the beauty sleep.
