To the relief and delight of recreational cricketers everywhere, club cricket will resume next weekend. After an extraordinary day, during which the prime minister flip-flopped his standpoint, the game was finally given the green light to return. Unsafe to do so in the morning; safe to do so by the evening press conference. Such is the way of things in the Boris Johnson government. Now that the government has given its permission for recreational cricket to return, the ECB will publish guidance in the coming days, with approved guidelines to help clubs and players prepare.
