Chamber of Commerce makes submission over migrant visa concerns

Proposed changes by the Government to ensure work visas reflect genuine regional skill shortages could lead to an increase in delays for processing permits and increased compliance, the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce says. The Chamber has made a submission to Immigration New Zealand (INZ), on behalf of the local business community, as they have "serious concerns" over the proposed changes to migrant work visas. The MBIE said it is considering a new approach to employer-assisted work visas and regional workforce planning. We agree with the employer leading the process," Smith said. Agreement based on clear skills shortages has been sought and in South Canterbury this includes transport/truck drivers, aged care workers, tourism/hospitality workers and agriculture/dairy workers, Smith said.
