Chamber of Commerce condemns firms' squabble over mask project

The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry has condemned the intervention of big companies and organisations fighting MSMEs and the SMEs in the mask production project funded by the Ministry of Health. The KNCCI claims that the big organisations have been frustrating local mask producers in terms of standards of the Personal Protective Equipment and masks for them to be disapproved. Speaking during a press conference in Machakos on Monday, Simon Kitheka the director of KNCCI lower eastern, said the organisations are fighting to take over the Sh300 million tender project funded by the Ministry of Health. The chamber claims that the firms are coalescing to discredit and lockout upcoming small and medium enterprises from participating in tenders. "These organisations are fighting through the Kenya Bureau of Standards to frustrate the MSMEs under the allegations of sub-standard products for them to be disapproved," Kitheka said.
