Century-old cedar to live on in bespoke furnitureEMMA DANGERFIELD/STUFF John Fairweather sets to work milling the largest piece of timber he has dealt with - a cedar measuring 1.5m in diameter. A 100-year-old cedar tree is being put to good use at a North Canterbury sawmill where it will be turned into items such as furniture, a hot tub, garden sleepers and bee boxes. John Fairweather, of John Fairweather Speciality Timber Solutions, said he was pretty excited at the prosect of working with such a large tree. EMMA DANGERFIELD/STUFF Milling the giant cedar is something a bit different for Fairweather. The cedar is something a bit different for Fairweather, who normally deals with locally-grown eucalyptus, from which he makes 6x2 and 8x2 boards for farm use.
