SUNGAI PETANI: A centre to document the role and contribution of the Indian community in the country will soon be established and be based at the Asian Institute of Medical, Science and Technology (AIMST) University. AIMST University board of governors member Prof Datuk Dr NS Rajendran said the Samy Vellu Centre for Indian Heritage and Civilisation would start its operations by mid December this year. Also present were the university's Chancellor and founder Tun S. Samy Vellu, Vice-Chancellor Prof M. Ravichandran and Academic and International Affairs deputy vice-chancellor Prof Emiritus Dr Harcharan Singh. Dr Rajendran added that the centre will also work with local and foreign agencies in an effort to gather information on the history of the Indian community in Malaysia. "There is evidence in Lembah Bujang to prove that the Indian culture and heritage have existed here for a long time.
