Centre submits correspondence on denotifying national highways

more-inThe Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Thursday informed the Karnataka High Court that it has written to the State government seeking details, including specific stretch of national highways (NHs) to be denotified for which bypass or ring roads have been constructed and schematic diagram of such stretches. The counsel for the MoRTH has submitted copies of the letter to the court during the hearing on petitions, filed by owners of establishments serving liquor, questioning non-renewal of their excise licences. The issue related to denotifying stretches of NHs is pending before the apex court, the MoRTH pointed out to the State. The letters were written in response to the State government’s June 15 letter for denotifying 704.54 km of NHs in Karnataka, which includes around 74.64 km passing through Bengaluru. Justice Vineet Kothari, who heard the petitions, adjourned further hearing till August 3 while asking the State to respond to the letters from the MoRTH.
