Early sleepers and late-night revellers in central New Zealand were rattled by a moderate earthquake after midnight on Saturday morning. GeoNet recorded the shake as 4.7 magnitude 35km east of Seddon, off the coast near Blenheim, at a depth of 33km at 12.38am. Also this week, GeoNet reported the detection of a "silent" earthquake or "slow-slip" event off the coast of Gisborne.
