Government MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said a decision should be taken to make the Central Bank of Sri Lanka independent. Speaking during the debate in Parliament yesterday, MP Rajapakshe said the Central Bank initially functioned in an independent manner making fiscal policies. He said there were senior, experienced, qualified and well-deserving officials at the Central Bank but outsiders are being appointed as Governors. “We don’t make use of senior officers at Central Bank and then they become frustrated. “Then only the people will benefit from the budget debate,” he said.
