The 100th anniversary of the birth of singer and civil rights activist Lena Horne is being celebrated by special cabaret performances at Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York by Vivian Reed, the two-time Tony Award-nominated Broadway star and concert artist. She also admitted the hardest part of putting the show together was narrowing down the number of songs she could perform. She said her choice of songs was determined by whether she liked them, and if she had previously performed them. In the most serious part of the program, she said she discusses Horne’s activities as a civil rights activist. “I got the opportunity to thank Lena when she performed on Broadway in 1981.
