Centene’s expansion of individual health insurance under the Affordable Care Act into new markets helped boost fourth-quarter profits for the largest U.S. provider of coverage known as Obamacare. Centene now manages Medicaid benefits for more than 8 million for states and offers individual coverage on the ACA’s public exchanges in 20 states. Centene’s revenue rose 29% to $16.6 billion thanks to growth of individual coverage and the acquisition last year of Fidelis Care, a statewide health plan in New York. While enrollment in Obamacare nationally dipped 3%, Centene said its enrollment grew and the insurer now has 20% of the ACA's individual market. Legal experts also don’t see support in higher courts or a divided Congress for uprooting health benefits some 20 million Americans have obtained under the ACA and its expansion of Medicaid benefits.
