Celtic had taken the lead in the 27th minute when Odsonne Edouard's goal put them ahead, before Gers striker Alfredo Morelos was shown a controversial red card. Edouard's goal prompted wild celebrations amongst the home support, with fans clambering onto the pitch in jubilation. One member of the crowd climbed over the hoardings surrounding the pitch, and could be seen jumping up and down whilst clinging on to a young fan. Moments later came the flashpoint involving Morelos, who reacted to Scott Brown's provocation by flinging an elbow in his direction. Celtic skipper Brown flung himself to the ground, despite there being seemingly little contact, before referee Bobby Madden showed Morelos his fifth red card this season.
