Celta de Vigo and Lille have never met in European competition before – the Spanish side have already beaten a French team once before this season, winning 2-1 against Nice on MD3 in the UEFA Europa League. Lille have won their last three major European matches against Spanish opponents, beating Sevilla, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League between November 2021 and October 2024. Celta de Vigo have lost their last two UEFA Europa League matches – it’s their fourth run of consecutive major European defeats but they’ve never lost three in a row. Lille manager Bruno Génésio has lost three of his last four UEFA Europa League group stage matches – he’d only lost two of his first 18 in the competition with Lyon, Rennes and Lille (W11 D5 L2).
