Emergency services were called to the fire in Kairua about 3.10am on Wednesday, northern fire communications shift manager Lauren Sika said. On arrival, they found a cell tower on fire, with police and the tower company needed to gain access. A police spokeswoman said police were on scene and assisting Fire and Emergency New Zealand with the investigation.
