BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - New Americans and Vermont natives celebrate Africa Day in Burlington. The Old North End Community Center held the gathering, organized by New American Public Health Initiative and several other local organizations. Celebrations centered on Pan-Africanism, a movement aimed at creating solidarity and freedom among those of African ancestry. “The importance of being African, being proud Africans, and also being proud to be part of citizenship and citizens of Vermont,” Fala explained. Africa Day was formerly known as African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day.
