Celebrating a lifetime of service in Murchison

Since moving to Murchison from Harakeke in 1961, Charles has been helping out the small Tasman town in just about every way, for more than 50 years. This Queen's Birthday weekend, Charles was awarded the Queen's Service Medal for her contribution to the Murchison community. She's raised funds for the local play centre, the Murchison Search and Rescue Team, and helped the local hospital buy a defibrillator and X-Ray machine. Charles said her best memory from volunteering was raising funds for the Murchison Search and Rescue team in the late 1970s. After the success of the first ride, they decided to organise two more: from Murchison to Reefton and then Murchison to Blenheim.
