Such is the art of rug hooking, a craft that started in Yorkshire, England, during the early 19th century and honored today for International Rug Hooking Day. Recently, Gerry Stanley, of the Village of Sunset Pointe, above, was busily finishing her gingerbread house rug for the exhibition. The possibilities for patterns are limited only by a crafter’s imagination: flowers, animals, seascapes, winterscapes and Christmas, of course. Beginners needn’t worry about buying patterns, materials or a hook.
