Photo: BIGSTOCKBangladesh’s role in the Rohingya crisis no doubt serves as a symbol of hope for the worldToday is International Human Rights Day, a day which marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This document proclaimed “the inalienable rights which everyone is entitled to as a human being” -- and there has never been a more important time for us to ensure that these rights are celebrated and protected. For a world that is seeing the erosion of democratic liberties day-by-day and slowly witnessing the rise of fascist policies, we take this opportunity to highlight not only the importance of fundamental human rights, but also call upon leaders small and big to fight for the rights of everyone to live a life of freedom. But it is through decades of hard work and fighting against the forces of oppression that we have established a world where human rights are valued as much as they are today. And we must continue to work for this in the future, striving towards a future where every nation and every individual understands the significance of human rights.
