A new defender is rolling into town for the Cavalry FC. The Calgary club announced the signing of Jonathan “Jay” Wheeldon, the brother of Cavalry FC head coach and general manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr.“Playing professional soccer and being part of the first Canadian Premier League in your own town is exciting,” said Wheeldon in a statement. Born in Plymouth, England, Wheeldon played professional soccer in Belgium and England between 2008 and 2012, before jumping across the pond to Calgary. Wheeldon joined Calgary Foothills FC in 2014 and was a part of the team’s Premier Development League championship last year.
