“Despite the severe hardships faced by Karnataka, the state will release water as directed by the SC,” Siddaramaiah said after a three-hour all-party meeting. Tamil Nadu has contested that Karnataka has released insufficient water during the months of June, July and August which will damage the ‘samba’ crop. Patil, Karnataka water resources minister, had earlier told Mint that almost 7,000 cusecs of water was being released to Tamil Nadu. Finding middle ground, the SC directed that Karnataka should release 15,000 cusecs of water from Biligundlu for 10 days. Tamil Nadu is also directed to release water proportionately to Puducherry.
