Cauvery: Karnataka team makes all efforts to avoid confrontation

The legal team headed by Fali S. Nariman will convince the court that there was no wilful disobedience on the part of the government. With the Karnataka State legislature passing an unanimous resolution expressing inability to release water except for drinking purposes in Bengaluru and other towns, the legal team is making all-out efforts to avert an impression of confrontation with the Supreme Court by submitting an application along with the resolution on Monday. The legal team, which held detailed discussions with Chief Secretary Aravind Jadhav on Sunday, will move the Supreme Court and seek a modification of the interim order passed on September 20. It hopes that submitting the resolution before the court, ahead of the date of hearing on Tuesday, could negate an impression of being “confrontationist with the judiciary”, according to a legal expert and political leader. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dashed off another letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the “government had no intention to disregard any of the Supreme Court orders.”
