Confident in her choice of a one-piece pink swimsuit, Gray took the pageant world by storm because of her “lava walk” (named after the flow of Mayon Volcano in Bicol, where she hails from) and slow motion twirl, setting social media ablaze. One Twitter user commented, “Catriona Gray was the first-ever contestant to do live slo-mo in [the] Miss Universe [pageant].”In the Evening Gown preliminaries, the Philippine bet wore an Ibong Adarna-inspired orange gown created by Mak Tumang, accented by the Miss Universe Mikimoto crown itself. The designer said that the mythological creature in Philippine foklore was pulchritudinous blessed with an enchanting voice, just like Gray.
