CATHOLIC Church leaders expressed their objection to President Rodrigo’s bid to legalize same sex marriage. Bishop Arturo Bastes of Sorsogon claimed in a statement that the Catholic Church should never allow and could never approve of same sex marriage as he called on Filipinos to never allow it. “Our main purpose is procreation of children and building a loving family, the basic unit of domestic church, which is of course impossible in same sex marriage,” the bishop said. The Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) also expressed their objection to same sex marriage. “Union between the same sex directly contradicts a central teaching of Islam and Christianity, that is marriage is only between a man and a woman,” PCEC said.
