All the houses were destroyed on Mango island, only two houses remained on Fonoifua, and Namuka island had extensive damage, it said. —————————————————————————— SYDNEY/WELLINGTON — Tonga’s small outlying islands have sustained major damage from a massive volcanic eruption and tsunami, the United Nations said on Tuesday, with downed communications and a blanket of ash hampering rescue efforts. The Red Cross said it was mobilizing its network to respond to what it called the worst volcanic eruption the Pacific has experienced in decades.
