CAIRO – 28 July 2021: The Court of Cassation upheld prison sentences against prominent Muslim Brotherhood leaders over spying with the Palestinian Hamas group. Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie and other leaders including Khairat El-Shater, Saad El-Husseiny, and Mohamed El-Beltagy had their life prison sentence upheld. The court also rejected the appeal of other defendants in the case who received imprisonment sentences ranging from seven years. The court also ordered terminating the case against Essam El-Erian for his death. A criminal court handed prison sentences to the defendants in the case in September 2019.
