De Adder cartoon, July 8Based on Monday’s editorial cartoon, it appears the Toronto Star is comfortable moving mental illness back into the shadows. Lisa MacLeod in a straitjacket is heartbreaking and demoralizing for all of those suffering, and the people supporting them. I cannot imagine the Star printing a cartoon maligning a cancer patient. Coming forward to seek help with mental health or addictions issues is brave. As more individuals come forward and tell their story, we will continue to break down the stigma that the Toronto Star seems to feel comfortable perpetuating.
