Former Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza yesterday blamed “those hanging around the judiciary” and cartels for the current problems at the Supreme Court. Baraza said some of those sitting in the Judicial Service Commission are interfering with the succession at the Supreme Court. This comes after a frenzied but beneath-the-surface succession battle which threatens to collapse the Supreme Court as the Chief Justice nears his retirement. Baraza said the Judges and Magistrates’ Vetting Board, led by Sharad Rao, has done considerably well. She criticised it for being harsh on removing justice Mary Ang’awa from the judiciary because of her temperament.
