Carrie Lam to visit Beijing next Tuesday

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive said today that she will be heading to Beijing next week, to attend ministerial meetings in the capital and secure more opportunities for Hong Kong’s post-pandemic recovery. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor earlier postponed her annual policy address until the end of November, saying the main reason for the delay is to feed new measures set to emerge from the Beijing talks into her annual policy address. Carrie Lam said she will first go to Shenzhen for quarantine after next Tuesday's Executive Council meeting, stay for a night and then head North to commence her three-day Beijing visit. The likes of these ministers joining her visit to the capital signal the prospect of material policy gains for the city in those areas. Lam stressed that the extended trip would not affect her plan to announce her annual Policy Address late next month.
