There had been reports of a person brandishing a baseball bat. That man whose crutch was found told the police it was Farren who had the baseball bat and further evidence was obtained from a doorbell camera. Mr Shelley summarised what Farren told the police in a voluntary interview two weeks later. A probation worker who interviewed Farren told the court that the defendant reported seeing the other man attacking a woman outside his home. A family man, Farren presented mental health concerns and suffered social anxiety.
